Fated (An Alex Verus Novel)

Fated - Benedict Jacka Alex Verus series has serious potential, my dear readers. Nice dry sense of humour, an underdog main character with a peculiar skill of a seer, plenty of action and even an impossible love story... What's not to love?

I've enjoyed Alex's personality immensely. There is just enough Harry Dresden and Atticus O'Sullivan in him, that that combination makes any fan of Jim Butcher and Kevin Hearne snatch this book like a hot cake.

The world-building was pretty easy to follow. Alex's world s separated into Light and Dark mages. He used to be a Dark mage's apprentice and a slave, but managed to escape and now lives mostly under radar, owning a magic shop in London.

When Council of Light mages finds a very powerful artifact able to change Fate of the world, they need Verus's particular skill to gain access to it without getting killed, but so as Dark mages. He is stuck n this tug of war and every possibility of the future he can look at involves his imminent and painful death.

Now Alex and his own apprentice, Luna, need to use every trick in the book to stay alive and not to let any of the megalomaniacs among the mages control the artifact.

Lovely, charming read, which made me want to pick up book#2 Cursed and book#3 Taken straight away.
