No Proper Lady

No Proper Lady - Isabel Cooper Despite clearly seeing all the things that could have been much better in this book, I really really enjoyed it!

I wanted to read No Proper Lady since I've heard it being described as "Terminator meets My Fair Lady". Who could resist such a sales pitch, right?

It's not quite good old Arnold and very low on action, but what a fun tromp, people!

This wonderful tough assassin gets sent back from the future into the 19th century England to stop a magician who would open the door into parallel worlds from which all the evil creatures would come out and conquer the world.

In the future people live in the dingy dark tunnels and constantly fight with monsters for their survival. And they are losing.

Joan arrives into the countryside and accidentally saves another magician from the monsters sent to kill him. Simon takes her in and tries his best to help her with her mission against his enemy Alex Rendell. Him and his sister teach Joan manners necessary to introduce her into the beau monde in order to get closer to Rendell.

The task is not easy, but the whole exchange transforms all the parties involved. I was expecting Joan to use her assassin's skills and maybe save Simon from some robbers on the street. You know, to spice things up...

Instead the focus of the novel is on the feelings and perceptions, it reads more like paranormal and historical romance at the same time. I loved it, but I dearly wished for more.

However I'm very much looking forward to book #2 No Honest Woman, which I think will be just as enjoyable as this one!
