Sophia

Sophia - D.B. Reynolds 4.25/5
This is one of these books which you can not judge by its cover. I don't really know who stands behind the decision to keep horrible covers for the whole series, but I would really want to strangle them.

I want to have these absolutely wonderful series in paperback standing proudly on my bookshelf, but with the covers like this? No way. Ranting aside I luuurve Vampires in America.

D.B.Reynolds managed to create one of the most delicious couples in PNR genre - Raphael and Cyn, a powerful ruthless bloodthirsty vampire lord and his tough, wicked, clever wife - private investigator and ex-cop. They have this equality and refreshing dynamics much like Roarke and Eve Dallas from In Death series by J.D.Robb.

And this couple is hot, hot, hot! Where was I? Ah, yes. I don't know why this book is called Sophia as Sophia's and Colin's love story is completely overshadowed by what's going on with Cyn and Raphael.

Although vampire Sophia and her human lover Colin were very likable characters, I didn't really care about them. Not with what was happening with human white-supremacist group, all the shootings and drama. Oh, and vampire revenge! Br-r... Graphic.

The book was read literally in one gulp. It's smooth and full of action. My only complaint? There just wasn't enough. Sophia's story is rushed, everything is resolved too quickly and way too easy. Also I didn't quite get the reason behind Sophia's Master actions. I want more, and can't wait for Duncan's story. He's too cool for school. *wink*

If you decide to read the whole series, make sure you have the book #2 next to the book #1. Believe me, you will have to grab the second book as soon as the first one ends *evil laughter*
